Awe, fueled by curiosity, is a powerful motivator for learning and frequently inspires joy & delight.
Through stories, words & images reading connect us to ourselves, each other and our world.
We develop learning experiences that are attuned to the people we teach, learn with and learn from. Our model is called Attuned Literacy. By attuning ourselves to those we are with, we build toward belonging. Belonging accelerates the learning process, because when we feel that we belong - we feel comfortable enough to take the risks that learning requires.
Belonging occurs when people are welcomed exactly as they are. Creating spaces of belonging requires attending to each other — noticing and shifting so that each individual has what they need to thrive.
Creating belonging is about adjusting our ways of interacting with each other by identifying pathways for connection, and roadblocks that alienate. Spaces of belonging are dynamic spaces that shift with each addition.
We facilitate conversations, consult with leaders and stakeholders and offer tools and strategies for building belonging between those with similar and diverging identities.
We support people, particularly members of currently and historically marginalized communities in advocating for their self-identified needs. We work as consultants and as side by side partners, using our expertise in education to support spaces where all may thrive.
In addition to using tools, routines & strategies designed to move reflection into action, we are set apart by our use of picture books, nature and art to support our work. Picture books and photography are some of our most valuable resources.
* Our definition of belonging is based on the work of john a. powell at UC Berkeley's Othering and Belonging Institute. Places of belonging are dynamic spaces, shifting with each new addition, welcoming people exactly as they are.
